OEM Deployment - The KDE 3 era observations and where to head in KDE 4 for quality

Speaker: Helio Chissini de Castro

Recently a huge wave of companies join the trends of OEM distributions, mostly on top Linux systems. More and more KDE are accepted as de facto desktop environment. As KDE 3 reach their maturity, a lot of past legacy is now revealing difficulties on request of this companies to do modifications and fixes previously not detected and that could be solved on the project stage. Within the times, several hacks and on top applications are created to solve some of thew issues, then creating a new layer of possible problems beyond fix stable code and making life os developers a little bit more complicated The idea is show how we can setup a quality assurance target for KDE 4 to avoid in future such issues, demonstrating some real cases and if a solution could be found or not and how was done. All the samples are real effective work done in Mandriva Brazil labs
